Remote code execution in WordPress plugins

Remote code execution means an attacker can make your server run code of their choosing. This includes code injection in PHP and command injection, where input ends up in a shell command. It is the worst outcome a plugin bug can have: whoever exploits it controls the site and often everything else in the same hosting account.

Attackers scan for these within days of disclosure. A record that needs no login and has a critical score should be treated as urgent.

What to do: update immediately, or deactivate and delete the plugin if no fix exists. If the site ran a vulnerable version, assume it may have been compromised: look for new admin users, unfamiliar PHP files in wp-content/uploads, and changed core files, or run a free scan.

Worried a plugin bug was used on your site?

The free scan reads the public side of your site and looks for spam pages, hidden redirects, injected scripts and blacklist entries. No login, no install, about a minute.

Newest Remote code execution records

391 on record for the plugins we track; the newest 100 are below. Data as of 2026-11-04.

“Affected” is the version range the source gives. “Fixed in” is the version the source names, or (marked *) the first wordpress.org release after the last affected version. Each CVE id links to the full record on the plugin’s page.
