How to fix CVE-2026-48784 in symfony/routing
- Find the installed version:
composer show symfony/routing. If you never required it yourself, composer why symfony/routingshows which package pulls it in. - Update it:
composer update symfony/routing --with-all-dependencies. You need the fixed version for your release line (5.4.53, 6.4.41, 7.4.13 and 8.0.13). - If Composer will not go that high, your composer.json constraint is holding it back. Widen it (for example
"symfony/routing": "^8.0.13"if you can take that version), or upgrade the package that requires it. - Run
composer audit. It reads the same advisory data and should no longer list CVE-2026-48784. - Commit composer.lock and deploy it. On the server, run
composer install --no-devfrom the lock file, notcomposer update.
If you cannot upgrade yet
- Only redirect to relative paths or to an allow-list of your own hosts.
- If your app does not use the affected feature, note that in your audit, but still plan the upgrade.
The CVE-2026-48784 advisory
Symfony is a PHP framework for web and console applications and a set of reusable PHP components. Prior to 5.4.53, 6.4.41, 7.4.13, and 8.0.13, UrlGenerator::doGenerate() used strtr() dot-segment encoding that skipped every other chained ../ or ./ segment, allowing attacker-controlled route parameters to generate URLs that collapse to a different path under RFC 3986 normalization. This issue is fixed in versions 5.4.53, 6.4.41, 7.4.13, and 8.0.13.
