What to do now

  1. Update Fastcache by Host.it to 1.7.6 or newer (the latest is 1.7.8): Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
  2. If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
  3. Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
  4. Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known Fastcache by Host.it issue. With WP-CLI: wp plugin get fastcache-by-host-it --field=version.
  5. If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.

The advisory

The Fastcache by Host.it plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 1.7.5. This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to add or remove the plugin's page-cache rewrite rules in the site's root .htaccess file.
