DOM-based cross-site scripting (XSS) in YMC Filter (3.12.19 and older)
- Affected
- 3.12.19 and older
- Fixed in
- 3.12.20 *
- Access needed (per CVSS)
- Needs a low-level account (e.g. subscriber)
- Range from
- CVE record (the advisory publisher) · score by Wordfence
Details from the advisory
The YMC Filter plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting via the 'post_title' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.12.19 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with author-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The autocomplete REST endpoint is registered with a permission callback that unconditionally returns true, meaning any site visitor — including unauthenticated users — can trigger the payload simply by typing in the YMC filter search box, while only Author-level access is required to store it.

The YMC Filter WordPress plugin before 3.12.8 does not sanitize and escape a layout builder setting before outputting it on a public endpoint, and does not verify object ownership when the setting is saved, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to store JavaScript that executes in the browser of any visitor viewing an affected filter.

Details from the advisory
The Filter & Grids plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL Injection via the 'phrase' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.0 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. This only works on MariaDB as the query results in a syntax error on MySQL.
