Turn your SQL queries into beautiful dynamic charts with a visual SQL builder, live autocomplete and no-code date/input filters. — by Elvin Haci
What to do
- Update to the latest version (3.0.7). Anything older than 3.0.7 has at least one known issue listed below. Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
- If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
- Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
- If you ran a vulnerable version and something looks off (spam pages, strange admins, redirects), run the free scan.
With WP-CLI: wp plugin get sql-chart-builder --field=version shows what you run; wp plugin update sql-chart-builder updates it.

- Fixed in
- 3.0.7 *
- Access needed (per CVSS)
- Needs a low-level account (e.g. subscriber)
- Range from
- CVE record (the advisory publisher) · score by Wordfence
Details from the advisory
The SQL Chart Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'X-axis column value ($value->$xarg_s from $wpdb->get_results())' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.6 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires an administrator to have published a chart whose SQL query returns a column controllable by a lower-privileged user, such as wp_users.display_name, which a Subscriber can populate with a payload via the standard WordPress profile page at /wp-admin/profile.php.

SQL injection in SQL Chart Builder (2.3.6 and older)

- 2.3.7 *
- Access needed (per CVSS)
- Needs a low-level account (e.g. subscriber)
- Range from
- CVE record (the advisory publisher) · score by Wordfence
Details from the advisory
The SQL Chart Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL Injection via the 'arg1' arg of the 'gvn_schart_2' shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 2.3.6 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.
