What to do now

  1. Replace Verified Reviews (Avis Vérifiés). A closed plugin gets no updates through WordPress, so this hole stays open.
  2. Deactivate and delete it once you have a replacement (Plugins → Deactivate → Delete). Deactivating alone leaves its files on the server.
  3. Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known Verified Reviews (Avis Vérifiés) issue.
  4. If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.

The advisory

The Verified Reviews (Avis Vérifiés) plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'moderation' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.6 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The authentication bypass is possible because ntav_check_data() uses loose != comparisons for signature verification, allowing a JSON body with boolean true values for idWebsite and sign to pass all checks on any configured installation.
