What an attacker needs

What to do now

  1. Update Everest Forms to 3.6.3 or newer: Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
  2. If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
  3. Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
  4. Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known Everest Forms issue. With WP-CLI: wp plugin get everest-forms --field=version.
  5. If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.

The advisory

The Everest Forms – Contact Form, Payment Form, Quiz, Survey & Custom Form Builder with AI plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'evf_toast_type' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. Exploitation requires the sibling evf_toast parameter to decode successfully via atob(), but this is a trivially attacker-controlled prerequisite.
