What to do now

  1. Update Wava Payment Plugin to 0.3.10 or newer: Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
  2. If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
  3. Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
  4. Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known Wava Payment Plugin issue. With WP-CLI: wp plugin get wava-payment --field=version.
  5. If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.

The advisory

The Wava Payment Plugin WordPress plugin before 0.3.10 does not verify the authenticity of incoming payment-provider notifications, nor restrict who may send them, allowing unauthenticated attackers to change the status of any WooCommerce order in the store, including marking an unpaid order as paid and completed, and cancelling other customers' orders. In versions up to 0.3.7 the response additionally returns the affected order's billing details, disclosing customer names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers to the same unauthenticated caller.
