What to do now
- Update Advanced File Manager to 6.0.0 or newer: Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
- If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
- Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
- Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known Advanced File Manager issue.
With WP-CLI:
wp plugin get file-manager-advanced --field=version. - If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.
The advisory
The Advanced File Manager WordPress plugin before 6.0.0 does not correctly determine whether a stored file is an SVG before sanitising it, allowing users granted file-manager access by an administrator to store a file containing script that is not stripped and that runs in the browser of anyone who opens it, including an administrator.
