What to do now
- Update WPVR to 9.0.3 or newer (the latest is 9.3.1): Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
- If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
- Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
- Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known WPVR issue.
With WP-CLI:
wp plugin get wpvr --field=version. - If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.
The advisory
The WPVR WordPress plugin before 9.0.3 does not properly sanitise and escape some of its tour hotspot content before storing it and outputting it on the front end, which could allow users with the Contributor role and above to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks that execute in the browser of any user viewing the affected tour.
