What to do now

  1. Update WP User Manager to 2.9.26 or newer (the latest is 2.10.5): Dashboard → Updates, or Plugins → “update now”.
  2. If you cannot update right away, deactivate it until you can.
  3. Turn on auto-updates for it: Plugins → “Enable auto-updates” on its row.
  4. Not sure which version you run? Check your version against every known WP User Manager issue. With WP-CLI: wp plugin get wp-user-manager --field=version.
  5. If you ran an affected version and something looks off (new admin users, spam pages, redirects), run the free scan below.

The advisory

The WP User Manager WordPress plugin before 2.9.26 does not keep its paid-registration capability restrictions in force once the payment gateway is disconnected, while a published paid registration form continues to assign its configured role, allowing unauthenticated users to register and immediately obtain a privileged administrator-equivalent role without completing the payment meant to gate it.
